When parents get involved at school, they are showing the teachers that they care. This paper presents a new framework for designing family engagement initiatives that build capacity among educators and families to partner with one another around student success. Given the crucial role of the head in securing high quality education in the school, it is all the more important that arrangements for headteacher appraisal are robust, effective and clearly focused on the key skills of good leadership.
Unfortunately, some of the most well-publicized family involvement efforts right now—tempting as they might be—are likely to have negative consequences. Such concerns will be handled discreetly. We are expected to work with the community by building up the parents with children who attend the centers.
